Breaking Through the Scars: Advancements in Dermatology and Cosmetology for the Treatment of Acne Scars

Acne vulgaris is a skin disease that can cause various skin eruptions, such as comedones,pustules, papules and cysts. Unfortunately, it can also form atrophic scars, which can be achallenging complication for dermatologists and cosmetologists. However, ongoing researchhas identified multiple effective methods for improving acne scars.

 

The different types of atrophic scars, including icepick, rolling and boxcar scars, havevarying depths, widths and cross-sections, and they can even combine to form clusters. Thesescars can be especially distressing if located on the face, as they can negatively impact apatients quality of life, causing isolation and depression.

 

There are multiple effective modalities to manage acne scars. Ablative lasers, radiofrequency,microneedling and pilings with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) have demonstrated remarkabletreatment outcomes. Ablative lasers and other modern devices that use, like, radiofrequencyor microneedling, as well as TCA, yield excellent treatment outcomes. However, it must beremembered that each scar reduction method has its own pros and cons. Nevertheless,research shows that the best results can be achieved through the synergy of treatments, likecombining a 1540-nm nonablative fractional laser with percutaneous collagen induction(PCI) and 20% TCA or a combination of derma roller and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) orderma roller and 15% TCA. The best scar reduction results are achieved with lasers,radiofrequency, microneedling and PRP treatments.Its important to note that each patient should be treated individually, and properdermatological treatment and skincare, as well as timely implementation of cosmetological

 

 

treatments, can help achieve satisfactory results with minimal side effects. Overall,contemporary dermatology and cosmetology offer a range of effective treatments forreducing atrophic scars caused by acne vulgaris.
